“What Did You Do Today?”

This is the daily question asked by parents to their children. As parents we are keen to know about our children school day. However asking them every day the same question doesn't mean to receive a different response.

The children are busy all day. They do many, many different things at school. When you ask your children:

What did you do today?” They are overwhelmed and don’t know what to choose to talk about so they say “Nothing.” If you want to know what your child did today, ask questions like: • What happened today that made you feel… (you choose the emotion). • What was hard for you today? • What new thing did you do today? • Who did you have fun with today? • What happened at lunchtime? • How were you creative today? • What problems did you solve today? • Who did you help today? • Who helped you today? • How were you kind today? • How were you brave today? • What was the worst / best part of today? • What happened today that you want to do again tomorrow? • What can you do to make tomorrow a great day? • Then say “What’s one thing can we do together that will make today even better?” -Then, do it!
